I enjoyed Twice Tempted a lot.

Despite the fact that Leila was a little mopey and made some drastic decisions, I felt like it was understandable and believable. It was obvious during Once Burned that Vlad fell for her. Everyone could see it. But he had to admit it. And if he wasn’t going to, then she would just go. Besides, Vlad is hard to read, so of course if he was trying to not be in love with her and was all stony, she would interpret that as him not caring.

I hate that the synopsis makes it sounds like there’s a love triangle. There’s no triangle, only Maximus just trying to stretch a straight line between Leila and Vlad into a triangle he can be part of. Twice Tempted was definitely the installment that dealt with betrayal. Who could Vlad trust? He’s had one dude come back from the “dead” to attack him and this time, he’s wondering who was behind the attacks on Leila.

Despite the initial drama, Leila and Vlad find their way and things become a bit more permanent. Also, without spoiling too much of the plot, I like that it did what was necessary to solve a conflict that all vampire/human relationships have. Because of Vlad’s proposal in book one, I think readers were all wondering what Leila would do.

My only issue is that Leila is a terrible decision maker. Well, I mean, she’s not too stupid to live or anything that bad, but she doesn’t quite understand what happens when she puts herself in danger. She may think she knows what she’s doing, but she’s young, not as strong as the people she’s up against, and she’s naïve. Even if things work out, she gets hurt. Yet, she acts like Vlad is overprotective for no reason instead of realizing just how terrifying it is to see someone you love, who isn’t as tough as you, consistently get into danger and almost die.

I loved the drama and the action, though, and I’m glad I picked the series up and continued to read it. I like the urban fantasy feel. I definitely recommend the series so far.

Twice Tempted Night Prince Jeaniene Frost 9780062076106 Books Reviews

Another winner from Jeaniene Frost! There was some separation in this one, which I didn't love, and a lot of fighting between Leila and Vlad, but I think a lot of it was needed for them both to realize what they were willing to do and sacrifice to be together. I like how this book moved the plot along, as well as add another layer to the outside forces working against Vlad and Leila. I can't wait to see what happens next. As usual, the audio was fantastic. I definitely recommend this series to audio fans. I love how Gilbert does Vlad's voice. She has truly enhanced this series and is helping me to one-click each audiobook without a moments hesitation!
Vlad has kept his distance from Leila since her psychic abilities began playing up when he surrounded her in his aura to save her from an explosion. Leila worries that her faulty abilities mean he's no longer interested, and worry about what this means for a future, until Vlad makes a shocking announcement. Vlad is proposing! Unfortunately, Leila is mistaken, and realises that's never on the cards for her and Vlad, that he'll never feel for her how she feels for him. Humiliated and hurting, she decides to leave and go back to her old life as a carnival acrobat with Marty. But when a bomb blows up her former trailer, it looks like someone wants her dead, and Vlad is looking like a possible suspect.

Oh, Vlad! I do love him. He is just so complicated when it comes to his feelings. He may act cold and distance, but there's so much going on underneath the surface! You know, I didn't think it possible, but he's even more arrogant in this book, and I found it so surprising! Because the Vlad we know from the Night Huntress series is always pretty jokey and flirty, I've always assumed his arrogance was half joke - sure there was some there, but he didn't take himself too seriously. Although in some ways that may be the case, his arrogance is mostly real. Yet his arrogance is warranted really; he's Vlad the impaler, he's conquered many an enemy throughout the centuries of his life, he's been through such terrible ordeals, yet he always comes out on top. Why would he believe any different? And he is over 500 years old, so he has certain old fashioned ideals, and with his arrogance, he can sometimes seem a little unreasonable, but Leila is well up for the challenge of teaching him the error of his ways.

Twice Tempted felt a little different to other books I've read by Frost. It felt less action packed - note the emphasis on "felt". Looking back, there are quite a number of suspense-filled, thrilling action scenes, yet when I think of the book on the whole, it felt more of a quieter book, a more emotional one - yet not exactly depressing or overly sappy. It must be the every day emotional issues of the book, and they, for me, seemed to outweigh the danger. But when things were resolved, it did seem to happen kind of quickly. Possibly a little too easily? Maybe.

But otherwise, an amazing story! So looking forward to the third book in the trilogy to see what happens next!
