When they return to Washington D.C. and find life lacking they decide another vacation is in order - a permanent vacation. They move to Saba to live in paradise. Of course, not even the Garden of Eden met such lofty expectations.

Saba Kyle G Roesler "Mary Jane" 9781451589078 Books

This book needed a good editor, in particular one who knows the difference between pouring over a book and poring over a book. There were other, similar and very un-writerly errors sprinkled liberally throughout. The treatment of Saba and the people who live there makes me believe the author has never actually visited this lovely little island. (For one thing, there has never been a "flight attendant" on the flights between St. Maarten and Saba.) An all-around disappointment.

Saba Kyle G Roesler "Mary Jane" 9781451589078 Books Reviews

I thought the book would have a more about the island. It was more a love story.
Have you ever seen that show Househunters International? It often features a couple that wants to move to some exotic locale after having the perfect vacation there. Saba is the story of a couple who does just that. Aaron and Erin move to a tiny Caribbean island called Saba (pronounced SAY-buh), and it changes their relationship in profound ways.

Alternating points of view throughout the story let you witness events through the eyes of two deeply interesting characters. There's a sense of humor (as always with Mary Jane), but there's also a spark of life that I've not seen before in MJ's characters. These characters don't feel like fictional constructs. They're so real, you'll feel for both of them. It's the secret behind the emotional punch that Saba delivers.
Good detail about where to find hotels, restaurants and all of the other things to do. Including the very unique tour of the island. Definitely a memorable event.
As a long time visitor to Saba, I really enjoyed this book. It was an easy read, which is what I was looking for to pass the time on the coast to coast plane ride, but it also transported me to my favorite Caribbean island. The story line was unique and not overly mushy (I hate romance novels) and Mary Jane cleverly inserted the island into the plot as another main character itself. She also did a great job of capturing the unique environment and culture of Saba. There are not many books about Saba, so great job Mary Jane!
This was an interesting book, with some very nice pieces to it.

There wasn't so much a plot as an arc to the book- we follow Aaron and Erin (husband and wife) through their journey to change their lives.

Saba alternated between their points of view, with a very occasional other person thrown in, usually for comic value. I felt this allowed me to get to know Erin better, but Aaron was simply a very shallow character. I think he was intended to be a person without depth, as opposed to an interesting human with a portrayal that lacked interest. It doesn't matter, I never really connected with him as a person or a character.

We meet Erin and Aaron at the end of their vacation, a visit to the small island of Saba. They have a perfect day, followed by a perfect night, then return home to their normal lives.

Aaron runs a tanning salon. He likes this job because he gets to ogle pretty women and has lots of time to read on his .

Erin is a middle school math teacher. She mostly enjoys her classes with the advanced students, but the "Practical Math" classes with the less academically motivated kids are less fulfilling. One student finally drives her to the breaking point, and she retreats home to examine her options.

The option she chooses, and convinces Aaron to try as well, is to move to Saba.

The rest of the book covers their attempts to settle into life on the island. Neither of them adjusts easily, but it's a chance to grow. They each take a different path, consistent with their personality.

Some parts of Saba show signs of loving craftsmanship, of being written and rewritten until each word is perfect. These are some of the spots where the words pulled me out of my enjoyment of the story. I'm not a person who reads for the words, I want the words to deliver the story for me.

This book was a quick read, and I enjoyed it, primarily for the humor and the character of Erin, as well as for the island of Saba itself.
This book needed a good editor, in particular one who knows the difference between pouring over a book and poring over a book. There were other, similar and very un-writerly errors sprinkled liberally throughout. The treatment of Saba and the people who live there makes me believe the author has never actually visited this lovely little island.
