His friends are dead and now Derek is trapped as a human and branded by magic. Not that he has anything against humans, after all, some of his best friends were human, however, it's just not for him. Now thrown out of his own reality he has to find a way to break his bindings and find a way home. Although he is an accomplished psychic Derek realizes that perhaps this may be the wrong skill set to bring to bear on ancient magics and devilish dragons. Now he has to explore the very building blocks of magic to take control of his destiny. Unexpectedly, while he's taking control, events occur that may lead to the end of the world as we know it. Mad mages, hordes of demons and unfortunate explosions follow him as he attempts to save the world. Which begs the question, what does happen after the apocalypse?

A Prison of Worlds The Chained Worlds Chronicles Book 1 eBook Daniel Ruth

After five revisions the book still has a chunk of repeated text, missing words, wrong words, and missing apostrophes, however the writing itself flows smoothly. So much so that I was able to ignore most of the mistakes and stay immersed in the story.

The story itself is very entertaining. The characters have different personalities and enough depth to provide no small amount of humor when they interact with other very different people/vampires/shifters/etc. The author also spent a lot of thought on world building and the magic systems which added to the enjoyment. The fights were perhaps a tad too short but I liked how the main character used his intelligence to work around imposed limitations.

If you enjoy humorous urban fantasy, give this book a try.

A Prison of Worlds The Chained Worlds Chronicles Book 1 eBook Daniel Ruth Reviews

I liked the humorous tone. for once the author's sense of humour and mine were in total sync, so I was already sold from the outset, and caught myself smiling and emphasizing quite often. Good balance of magic and technology, with psionics thrown in for good measure, making for a rich enjoyable stew, although flavoured with some inevitable cliches, they were tastily blended in. a good, read with the best ingredient the humorous characters.
An excellent story and high praise from me for creativity

I took a star away for the absolute refusal by the author to proofread his own work. One whole section was actually repeated and the sudden gaps in sentences were highly annoying. I am certainly not one of those horrid word freaks but even I found this book to be a grammar nightmare.

I'll certainly be reading the next boo, it is a fun story, I'll just be cursing a bit while I do
This book has an entertaining mix of concepts from science fiction and fantasy with a great set of characters and numerous plots that all thread together -- reminds me of Roger Zelazny's works.

I've re-read it and the second book multiple times and I'm looking forward to a third book.
This is a great read. When I first read it there were a lot of problems with the editing, but the story kept me going and I ended up loving the book. I think it's probably been cleaned up a lot since then, so there shouldn't be as many mistakes jumping out at the reader. Reading fantasy can feel like a slog sometimes as you wade through a lot of books that feel very samey, but this is a great example of true world building. I don't want to give anything away, but be prepared for a main character who isn't fulfilling any prophecies, saving any kingdoms or even worrying much about what's happening to the people around him, but is written with such verve that you just can't wait to see where the story takes him next.
Usually i avoid dragon books. Reason being the dragons are almost always too overpowered to make things interesting. While this dragon was powerful he was by no means overly so. There was some great action, some quality banter, and some cool progression and growth (not character growth more status and power). I particularly enjoyed the main characters poor understanding of humans.
There is no romance but plenty of plot twists and action. This book is fine for anyone to read without offense.

I only noticed two errors in the editing so I think other reviewers may be getting a little precious.

Eager to read book two.
A book involving technology, magic, were persons,(shifters), Alfar, vampires, and of course, a couple of dragons. An interesting read with lots of interesting ideas and concepts in regards to a future Earth.
On the downside there are a lot of missing words, incorrect words and a few editing faults that need to be fixed to give this a better star rating.
All in all a good book, with a good conclusion, but enough faults to downgrade the rating.
The story is an odd mix between urban fantasy, fantasy and SF written from the first person view of a young dragon cursed to remain in human shape and trapped in a human city in a SF urban fantasy city. It works remarkably well, and I like how the author managed to make the protagonist both likable and show that he is not a human (the arrogance is done especially well). At times the story also made me laugh, which is always a good thing. As for the spelling, I did not find it distracting, although the double print and mix of 1 chapter was confusing. Luckily no information appears to missing. Looking forward to the next part.
